8. Housing subdivisions

Segregating a home is a procedure through which one home is separated into two or more. As a result, the resulting properties must individually comply with the applicable regulations for each of them. The properties are separated in the land registry and cadastre, in addition to being physically separated. Dividing a home consists in an administrative procedure which guaranteed compliance of Building Code, General Plan and other applicable regulations.

Generally, the segregation or division will involve the renovation of the property. A work license must be processed and the project must be drawn up  and supervised by an architect.  Once the renovation is completed, it requires inspection by a city hall technician.  Finally, we proceed to register the resulting units with the Land Registry and the cadastral information.  A certificate of occupancy must be processed for each of the new units.
